Geared towards ages 11-15, this class has information on childcare and safety, including some basic first aid, as well as lessons on leadership and business skills. (This course does not provide childcare certification for adults working in the daycare industry).

Babysitting Training Course Overview

In order to complete the course, students must be in attendance from start to finish and participate in all class activities.  There is no mandatory written test, but one can be provided for clients who request one (if given, the written test must be passed with a score of 80% or better on all components of the multiple-choice test).  Students who finish the class will receive a baby sitting training completion card with no expiration.

Topics Covered In This Class

  • A Guide to Leadership – An overview of strategies and skills useful when trying to work with small children, including communication, motivation, and the FIND decision-making model.
  • The Business of Babysitting – Basic business skills: how to find jobs, writing a babysitting resume, interviewing with families, and other business practices handy for a babysitting job. This section also includes a self-assessment of current skills.
  • Play it Safe! – How to identify safety hazards in and around the home and how to prevent and fix hazards to create a safer environment for the children in their care.
  • Understanding Kids from 0 to 10 – Students will learn about behaviors of children at various developmental stages, how to engage and play with children of different ages, and how to appropriately correct misbehavior.
  • Caring For Kids – This section includes practice with a variety of childcare skills, including how to pick up and carry infants and toddlers, feeding babies with a bottle, and changing diapers.
  • Emergency Care – Included with the Babysitter’s Training is a short first aid overview, covering choking, bandaging, and some other common emergencies.
